I was hesitant at first because it was an Oprah Book Club book, and some of her books can be overrated. I read some of the other reviews and some people said it was just a book about "nothing". In a sense that's true, it simply follows the life story of a woman. But the life she endures is just heartbreaking. It represents millions of women who have experienced the same, and I was literally left physically ill after reading the climatic scene towards the end. It was like a car accident. I didn't want to read it but I couldn't stop. A think it's ridiculous that one reader critiqued that the main character doesn't change or grow. I would challenge her to try living this character's life and try and find the strength to overcome her situation. I loved this book and am buying because I want to reread it for the 4th time, and replace the one I lost. Just be prepared, this is not a happy and fluffy read and could be a huge trigger to anyone who has been involved in a similar situation.
