The album itself is a double CD package featuring shorter songs on the first disc and two epic tracks on the second. Although most of the Tangent's usual hallmarks are existent, there are some deviations into new areas, including the main theme of the problems facing many of us in midlife. Not As good As The Book also seeks to redress the imbalance created by the fact that most rock songs are about young peoples ideals and problems; the future that we dreamed of when we were young is here... and it's Not as Good as the Book!

This is a must have for fans of The Tangent and progressive rock (of all flavours, colours and hues!). The musicianship, composition and arrangements are top notch, but what sets it apart is the lyricism, poetry and perspectives that Andy brings.I found this many years too late but was fortunate enough to find a used copy in great condition, which included the “book” (or extended sleeve notes, if you wish). If you can find a copy, grab it and enjoy!Oh, and by the way, the book is excellent, imaginative, touching and funny, so worthy of being published by itself. So, maybe the title of this CD is truly accurate! (Though the CD is truly excellent as well)Overall, this collection of music and words shows quality, dedication, commitment and passion!
