For me, this is one of those poetry books that oozes aesthetic. It’s got that spiritual vibe going on—the tarot cards, horoscopes, palm reading, physic kind of spiritual. I’ve always been interested in those things (even though I’m more religiously spiritual) & to read a poetry book with that focus was incredible! This is going to be a book that sticks with me for a long time, I can tell! There’s just something about a poem like “How to Resurrect a Dissected Animal” that’s sad, fascinating, & dark all at once!I really like how some of the poems take simple imagery & magnify it, weaving a complexity from it in poems like “Fossil Spell” & “Spell for Olive Trees”.Overall, I freaking loved this book! I think my favorite poem would have to be “In the Event of Meeting Your Doppelgänger” because I love topic & implication!
